Anthropic generated $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, up from $1.1 billion a year earlier, according to a [draft IPO prospectus viewed by The Wall Street Journal](https://www.wsj.com/tech/ai/anthropic-revenue-growth-ipo-accaf0f1?ref=thealphaagentic.com). The draft also shows roughly $450 billion in cloud compute commitments, per [Investing.com's summary](https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/anthropic-revenue-hits-163-billion-as-preliminary-s1-outlines-ipo-risks--wsj-4960928?ref=thealphaagentic.com) of the Journal's report. The largest named deals are with units of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), all of which report earnings next week.

The prospectus, or S-1, is not public. Alpha Agentic searches of SEC EDGAR, most recently at 4:37 p.m. ET on Oct. 20, found no S-1 from Anthropic. The company has confirmed only that it [confidentially submitted a draft S-1](https://www.anthropic.com/news/confidential-draft-s1-sec?ref=thealphaagentic.com) on June 1.

## What the draft shows, per the WSJ

**Revenue:** $16.3 billion in the first half, versus $1.1 billion a year earlier.

**Compute spending:** Nearly $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the first six months, more than the $7.3 billion it spent in all of 2025.

**Losses:** A first-half net loss of $80.7 billion, of which $72 billion came from non-cash accounting adjustments tied to convertible notes and financing instruments.

**Customers:** About 20% of first-half revenue came from two customers.

## What it means for the hyperscalers

The Journal's account describes the cloud deals as noncancelable obligations over the next decade. Three providers are named: Google Cloud at $111 billion, Amazon Web Services at $110 billion and Microsoft at $31 billion.

By Alpha Agentic's math, those three total $252 billion. Per the Journal's account, Anthropic could potentially spend $750 billion in the coming years on more computing capacity, including deals still under negotiation.

The timing is tight. [Alphabet](https://abc.xyz/investor/news/news-details/2026/Alphabet-Announces-Date-of-Third-Quarter-2026-Financial-Results-Conference-Call-2026-8tpGZsLS6v/default.aspx?ref=thealphaagentic.com) and [Microsoft](https://news.microsoft.com/source/2026/10/07/microsoft-announces-quarterly-earnings-release-date-69/?ref=thealphaagentic.com) report on Oct. 28, and [Amazon](https://ir.aboutamazon.com/news-release/news-release-details/2026/Amazon-com-to-Webcast-Third-Quarter-2026-Financial-Results-Conference-Call/?ref=thealphaagentic.com) follows on Oct. 29.

## Beyond the hyperscalers

The draft says Anthropic sought more capacity than the hyperscalers were willing to supply, pushing it toward third-party datacenter developments, per the Journal's account.

That shift is already visible. In November 2025, Anthropic [announced a $50 billion investment](https://www.anthropic.com/news/anthropic-invests-50-billion-in-american-ai-infrastructure?ref=thealphaagentic.com) in U.S. datacenters built with [Fluidstack](https://fluidstack.io/news/fluidstack-selected-by-anthropic-to-deliver-custom-data-centers-in-the-us?ref=thealphaagentic.com) in Texas and New York, with sites coming online throughout 2026\. An earlier version of the confidential prospectus, [seen by Reuters](https://www.streetinsider.com/Reuters/Anthropics+%24518+billion+AI+buildout+hinges+largely+on+deals+that+cannot+be+canceled%2C+filing+shows/27116899.html?ref=thealphaagentic.com) in September, described a move from a cloud-only model toward dedicated datacenters and directly leased chips. It also listed about $161.2 billion in equipment lease obligations related to Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO).

Reuters [reported on Sept. 28](https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/anthropics-ipo-prospectus-shows-sweeping-ai-vision-surging-costs-2026-09-28/?ref=thealphaagentic.com) that the IPO could value Anthropic at more than $2 trillion. Anthropic is private, and no ticker or listing venue has been officially confirmed.

## The Alpha Take

If the WSJ's figures carry into the public filing, the $252 billion we tally across three named deals sits with [cloud providers that all report next week](https://www.thealphaagentic.com/hyperscaler-capex-tracker/), which could make Anthropic a recurring topic on those calls. The same draft shows an $80.7 billion first-half loss, about 20% of revenue from two customers and a turn to third-party datacenters after the hyperscalers would not supply all it sought. Until the S-1 posts, the Journal's account and the hyperscalers' own commentary are the main public reads on how firm that demand is.

## What to Watch

**Oct. 28:** Alphabet and Microsoft results. Watch for comments on cloud backlog and large AI customers.

**Oct. 29:** Amazon results, including AWS.

**Fluidstack sites:** Progress on the Texas and New York builds.

**The public S-1:** We'll cover it in full when it posts on EDGAR. Key checks: whether the $450 billion and $750 billion figures hold, customer concentration, and any ticker or listing venue.
